The Bible commands us to love God, our neighbors, and even strangers—yet it is strikingly silent on an explicit command to "love" our own parents, children, or spouses. This curious omission raises a profound question: What exactly do we owe our family? In this provocative seminar, we will deconstruct the complex dynamics between parents and children, as well as the often-turbulent bonds of siblings. We will further challenge social norms by asking: Why get married at all? By examining these relationships through the dual lenses of religious tradition and secular ethics, we will discover what it truly means to "belong" to one another.
