Instructor Bio: Lao Shi Nick Kusturic has been immersed in the martial arts since the age of seven. He began his training in Tae Kwon-Do under Grandmaster Jae Hwa-Kwon in New York City, earning his black belt before expanding his studies into Choy Lay Fut, Xing Yi Quan, Bagua, and Taijiquan. Along the way, he trained with distinguished teachers including Master Chan Tai San, Master Li Siu Hung, Master Kam Lee, and Grandmaster Zhu Tiancai. For more than two decades, Nick has dedicated himself to the study and practice of Taijiquan, particularly within the Chen family tradition, while deepening his understanding through the study of Taoist philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

A licensed acupuncturist with 25 years of clinical experience, Nick brings a uniquely holistic perspective to his Taiji instruction. His extensive knowledge of the body, energy systems, movement, structure, and health informs every aspect of his teaching. He has taught Taijiquan for more than 15 years and has competed extensively in both the United States and China, earning more than 15 gold medals. In 2011 and 2013, he traveled to Chen Village, the birthplace of Taijiquan, to study directly with Grandmaster Zhu Tiancai. During the 2011 6th International Taijiquan Competition in Jiaozuo City, China, he earned two gold medals and was honored with the opportunity to perform in the event’s closing ceremonies.

As a teacher, Nick’s philosophy centers on cultivating longevity through a healthy and balanced lifestyle. His instruction integrates body, mind, and spirit, combining authentic martial arts principles with the health, philosophical, and energetic traditions of Taijiquan. Rather than teaching a simple sequence of movements, he seeks to provide students with a comprehensive and authentic experience that develops strength, mobility, awareness, relaxation, and self-understanding. After a lifetime in the martial arts and a quarter-century working with the human body through acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nick continues to view Taijiquan as a lifelong practice that evolves with each individual, fostering greater balance, resilience, and vitality throughout life.
