About this event
Focusing on the soldiers who fought in Florida’s unforgiving wilderness, students will explore the weapons, uniforms, and equipment carried by American troops as they marched through swamps, dense forests, and extreme heat. The lecture highlights how soldiers adapted their tactics and equipment while battling the skilled resistance of the Seminole. Through stories of hardship, strategy, and survival, this course reveals what daily life and combat were truly like for U.S. soldiers fighting one of America’s longest frontier wars and the resilience of Florida’s unconquered Seminoles. Through firsthand accounts and historical evidence, this presentation reveals the realities of campaigning in Florida’s wilderness—where disease, exhaustion, and the environment were often as dangerous as combat itself.
